COACHES & STAFF

Mason C. Burroughs

Director / Head Coach

I have been involved in track and field since the age of 7.  At the age of 17, I competed in the 1980 Olympic Trials and then again in 1984.  In 1983, I was selected to represent USA in the 1st and only Friendship Games against China, Korea, and Japan.  (These games were held in Taiwan and the first big meet after the 1980 boycott). From 1997 to the present, I’ve coached high school track and field.  Each year my 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams advanced to CIF prelims and finals and the State Meet.   I was voted “Coach of the Year” by my peers twice in the last five years. I like passing on my experience in track and field to the youth of today by giving them knowledge; not just on the track field, but in life as they move up from grammar school through college and into the professional world. We have higher standards for our coaches, athletes and parents.   Our young runners of today are the future of this team and they will be our best recruiters of tomorrow. I want our athletes to be well rounded in education and street savvy. I want them to be Christ like men and women. I'm also the bailiff on the Judge Alex Court TV Show, “And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us…” , “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” We have a young club and our athletes have made it to the National Junior Olympics each year.

As a Man of God, I am made in his image, as are we all… We strive to be the Best we Can Be...

The best thing about coaching is helping young people succeed in areas they didn’t think were possible.

A fun fact about me is I used to be in the Rap Group-Private Boiz (N-Soul Records). My favorite pastime is watching movies. My favorite scripture is “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13

I have been involved with endurance sports since a young age, running track in high school as well as college. As an officer in the US Army, I led and trained teams for many competitions such as, the Army 10 miler, inter-service competitions and major Divisional competitive teams. During my career I attended some of the most challenging military schools such as Ranger School, Sapper School, Airborne and Air Assault, as well as Mountain Leader Course. These experiences helped me develop the physical as well as mental stamina required in endurance focused sports such as cross country and distance races in track.. I have continued my recreational running after the military and have developed a passion for coaching young athletes. I have served as High School Coach since 2016, as both Assistant and Head Cross Country Coach.  I am honored to be part of shaping young athletes to grow in God’s love as well as build their mental and physical abilities to help them succeed long into the future.

My favorite scripture to reflect on is, “Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called sons of God.” Matthew 5:9
